Study Leave & Courses Guidance

All applications for study leave are submitted via Accent Leave Manager which you can access by using the Forgotten Password option on the site and the email address you last provided to NHS England. If your email address needs to be updated, please contact us on the above portal.

If you have not already, please ensure that you familiarise yourself with the Study Leave policy available on our website, as well as any local guidance that may apply with the Trust or programme.

There is now a new communication platform in the Midlands for all NHS England teams, including study leave queries that can be submitted here: https://nhs-help.freshdesk.com/support/home. Please note that we are no longer using the contact emails for resident doctor enquiries and you should direct your queries through the above portal.

Oct 2025 Update

From 1 October 2025, we have enabled the option in Accent Leave Manager to allow for claiming some expenses early. The FAQs for this are available on our websites below.

What does this mean?

Once you have an approved application for study leave, including any estimated expenses on Accent Leave Manager you can submit a claim before attending the event/course. This option only applies to expenses for which you can provide a valid receipt, that is the course/conference fee, public transport e.g., train travel and accommodation. This does not apply to expenses for mileage or subsistence which can only be claimed after you have attended the study leave activity.

Study Leave Matrix and Funding Guidance

There are slight changes to the Study leave system in place. Whilst we previously talked about the Study Leave matrix, there is now a list of approved courses.

This, along with the latest WM Study Leave Guidance (which will usually answer most SL queries) can be found here.
